Pilot Profile
Tim Schelhorn
Big Bite Excavation, Inc
Tim is a second-generation pilot and was only a year old when he flew for the first time back in 1967. Throughout his childhood his father flew the family all over, but his fondest memories are flying in the Idaho Frank Church Wilderness Area where they would camp, hike, and explore. Tim’s desire to become a pilot grew all those years of flying with his dad and basically growing up around aircraft at “Hubbler Field” in Caldwell, Idaho.
After starting his own excavation company (Big Bite Excavation, Inc.) in 1989, that is exactly what he did, and in 1991 Tim obtained his private pilot’s license. Over the last thirty years he has been flying the back country and Idaho desert lands every chance he gets and is looking forward to participating in both STOL and STOL Drag.
The adaptability of owning and operating Big Bite, Inc. has led to multiple successful entrepreneurships for the Schelhorn family. Mad River, LLC., which has constructed multiple hangar complexes of the finest quality at KMAN and Sawtooth Land Acquisition, LLC., which is a land acquisition and development company.
In the infamous words of Chuck Yeager “You do what you can for as long as you can, and when you finally can’t, you do the next best thing. You back up but you don’t give up. If you want to grow old as a pilot, you’ve got to know when to push it, and when to back off.”
